The Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Division staff uses endoscopic, imaging and physiologic testing procedures.
Our programs in asthma, emphysema and interstitial lung disease are nationally recognized for asthma research and in management of difficult asthmatic conditions. Pulmonary medicine specialists at Jeff apply the newest technology and strategies in ventilator and respiratory care and in weaning patients from ventilator dependency.
For patients with severe persistent asthma, Jefferson is offering a new nondrug outpatient procedure that has shown to increase asthma control and improve quality of life, known as bronchial thermoplasty.
The Lung Nodule Clinic and a Lung Cancer Screening Program, one of the first in the Delaware Valley, further evaluates lung nodules and screens for lung cancer in high-risk patients.
Management of patients with interstitial lung diseases is often complex and varies depending on the underlying cause. For patients referred to Jefferson, our pulmonologists work closely with a wide range of healthcare providers including thoracic surgeons, rheumatologists, nurses and respiratory therapists to determine the cause and the best course of treatment of interstitial lung disease.
