Jefferson's Department of Surgery is steeped in a tradition of advancing surgical procedures and setting the standard for surgeons around the world.
Jefferson otolaryngologists and head and neck surgeons perform the most sinus surgeries in the Delaware Valley, including the less-invasive, leading-edge procedure known as 3-D endoscopic sinus surgery.
The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery gives you access to some of the premier oral and maxillofacial surgeons in the Delaware Valley. Other areas of expertise include treatment and diagnosis of tempromandlbular joint dysfunction, implantology, trauma surgery and microneurosurgery.
Jefferson orthopedic surgeons perform both surgical and nonsurgical procedures to treat seven specialty areas of orthopedics: hip and knee, shoulder and elbow, foot and ankle, hand and wrist, spine, sports medicine and musculoskeletal oncology.
The Department of Neurological Surgery represents one of the busiest academic neurosurgical programs in the country, offering comprehensive management for patients with neurological diseases affecting the brain and spine.
Our Department of Anesthesiology is a national leader in acute pain management for patients with conditions of the hand, wrist, arm, elbow and shoulder. Established in 1904, Jefferson's Department of Urology is one of the oldest in the United States.
Jefferson is one of the few hospitals with a Level I Trauma Center, with trauma surgeons who provide state-of-the-art operative care for patients with all types of injuries.
The Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery's full-time staff of cardiac surgeons performs more than 600 major cardiac operations annually. State-of-the-art procedures include arterial revascularization for coronary artery disease and aortic valve replacements.

Jefferson general surgeons have achieved excellence in many surgical fields and have expanded the boundaries of surgery, especially in radical liver resections for otherwise untreatable liver cancers and in open surgical placement of radioactive seeds for pancreatic cancers.
Jefferson is certified by the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) to provide the following transplantations: heart, liver (live and deceased donor), kidney (live and deceased donor) and pancreas.

Jefferson is also home to a Short Procedure Unit that serves as an ambulatory care area providing a wide range of medical and surgical procedures and a Surgical Center, which provides a modern and attractive facility to serve the increasing number of patients undergoing surgery on an outpatient basis.
