Our Wound Care Program is dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of chronic wounds. The Program is a component of the Jefferson Vascular Center. Our physicians and nurse practitioners work closely with referring physicians to provide you with comprehensive, integrative care of chronic wounds.

While there are many different types of wound and attendant disease processes, there are only a relatively few physicians who are either familiar with or have experience in diagnosing and treating these conditions. Further, proper wound care is a time-consuming process that may require a number of treatments and specialized equipment, as well as expertise.

Jefferson's Wound Care and Hyperbaric Program was established to provide anyone suffering with chronic wound care access to expert wound care from qualified specialists at a specially equipped facility.

Our team of specialists can diagnose and treat all types of wounds, such as surgical wounds that have not healed properly, diabetic ulcers and unusual wounds that manifestations of various diseases. Our staff is well qualified, highly experienced and properly equipped to provide crucial processes essential for wound healing, including:

  • Debridement of wounds – excising unhealthy tissue from wound
  • Compression therapy – boots, bandages and dressing to control swelling 
  • Offloading of diabetic foot ulcers – application of specialized casts or boots to reduce pressure applied on ulcers
  • Application of skin substitutes – synthetically engineered tissue grafts to accelerate the healing process
  • Ultrasound – to evaluate swelling and sufficiency of blood supply to wound area
  • Transcutaneous oxygen monitoring module (TCOM) – to evaluate sufficiency of blood supply to wound area
  • Hyperbaric oxygen therapy – pressurized oxygen treatment to accelerate healing of skin flap/graft compromise, diabetic foot wounds, radiation injuries and chronic osteomyelitis, among others 
Our specialists will not only treat your wounds but also identify and address factors impeding wound healing, which is crucial to achieving positive results. Your referring physician will be kept informed about your care throughout the treatment process, which can take several weeks.
