Brain Tumor Treatment at Jefferson

  • Jefferson physicians treat more patients with brain tumors than all other area university-based hospital programs combined, treating over 600 brain tumors a year.
  • With our innovative treatments, Jefferson physicians have changed the standard of care in the world for treatment of brain metastases, gliomas, and optic nerve sheath meningiomas.
  • Jefferson has the most advanced noninvasive treatment options for brain tumors in the Delaware Valley, including Shaped Beam Surgery™ and fractionated stereotactic radiosurgery. These treatments can target radiation directly to the tumor without damaging surrounding tissue. This means that you are likely to experience minimal discomfort after treatment which is performed in an out-patient setting, allowing you to continue your normal routine at work or at home without interruption.
  • Jefferson neurosurgeons are among the most experienced in the country and are often able to provide effective treatment options if you have a hard-to-reach or difficult-to-treat brain tumor. Our surgical (both traditional trans-cranial and endoscopic approaches) and radiosurgery (both single and multiple fraction techniques) yields an overall volume that is unrivaled in the tri-state area.
  • Jefferson is the only hospital in the Delaware Valley to offer minimally invasive neurosurgery. This procedure allows surgeons to perform surgery without the need for large "exploratory" incisions, instead utilizing either a robotically controlled microscope or frameless "viewing wands," which guide the surgeon's instruments through parts of the brain or spine that are not visible to the naked eye.
