What can I do to prevent lymphedema?
Lymphedema after cancer treatment can not necessarily be prevented, but when it is treated early enough, the swelling can be reversed. Patients at risk for lymphedema can lower their chances by avoiding tight clothing, keeping their arms and legs clean, avoiding heat to the arm or leg and protecting the extremity from sunburn, bug bites, needle pricks, etc.
