With the ever increasing obesity of the U.S. population, what challenge issue, problems are posed by the obese patient for the physician who performs the colonoscopy procedure?

Obesity alone does not pose additional problems per se for the physician who is actually performing the colonoscopy. However, patients who are morbidly obese often have varying degrees of coexisting lung disease and must be monitored closely when receiving anesthesia for the colonoscopy.
