When is radiation therapy appropriate for someone with colorectal cancer?

Radiation therapy is typically used for patients with stage II or III rectal cancer. It is used before or after surgery, typically combined with chemotherapy. It can be used selectively in patients with colon cancer, or other stages of rectal cancer.
