Are there any ways that I can prevent colorectal cancer or ways to reduce my risk of getting it?

Screening colonoscopies are key to lowering the risk of colon and rectal cancer. You should obtain a screening colonoscopy at the recommended age (typically 50 if there is no family history of colon cancer). A colonoscopy can remove a poly before it becomes cancerous.

The American Cancer society has new guidelines for nutrition and physical activity for cancer prevention. To summarize, it is recommended to  maintain an appropriate weight, and avoid weight gain increase physical activity,  limit consumption of red meat and processed meats,  eat more fruits and vegetables, avoid excess alcohol intake get the recommended amounts of vitamin D and calcium.
