After following the instructions for a clear liquid diet and completing the entire prep for the colonoscopy, your husband will be asked to arrive for his colonoscopy approximately one hour prior to his colonoscopy start time.

He will be asked to change into a gown and will be taken to the “pre-operative” area where the nurses will start an IV. His gastroenterologist and the anesthesiologist who will be administering sedation for the procedure will ask him questions about his medical history, will explain the risks and benefits of the procedure, and will obtain consent from your husband to do the procedure.

He will then be taken back to the procedure room where anesthesia will be given and the procedure will start. The procedure takes approximately thirty minutes. After the procedure is completed, your husband will be taken to the recovery area where he will wake up from the anesthesia. The doctor will then discuss the results of the procedure with him.
