What are the causes of pancreatic cancer?
The causes of pancreatic cancer are multi-factorial in nature. There are two major forms of pancreatic cancer from a genetics standpoint (familial and sporadic). We know that there is a subset of pancreatic cancers that are caused by a familial, genetic influence. Thus, if you have multiple first degree family members with pancreatic cancer you may have an increased risk for this disease. Otherwise, there is strong data that life style can influence your risk of getting cancer; specifically smoking is a major factor.
