This is certainly a difficult time for you both and being supportive an understanding is very commendable. One of the best things you can do is educate yourself about prostate cancer but do so from reliable and recognized resources.

While there is often a sense of panic when the diagnosis of cancer is made, in most settings you can take a deep breath and take a little time to make a treatment decision. Online and printed books from sources such as the American Cancer Society, the National Cancer Institute, the Prostate Cancer Foundation or other major recognized organizations are good places to start.

Then consultation with appropriate specialists in fields of urology, radiation or medical oncology as may be appropriate to your husband’s specific situation. The Jefferson Kimmel Cancer Center was one of the pioneering centers that encouraged the multidisciplinary clinic approach to prostate cancer. Check with you local hospital or NCI designated Cancer Center to seek a second opinion and also get feedback form you primary care physician who can often provide good input into your case.

Finally, also consider visiting a local prostate cancer support group (such as "UsToo” , “Man to Man”, “Buddy Program”).  They provide a good resource for both the family and patient working through these difficult times. Best wishes to you and your husband.
