I have heard about immunotherapy treatments for prostate cancer. What are these and what kinds of patients would qualify for it?

Immunotherapy is educating your immune system to fight the prostate cancer. There is currently one immunotherapy that is approved by the FDA to be used in prostate cancer called Provenge. Typical patients that receive Provenge are patients with cancer spread outside of the prostate (typically the bones) who have minimal symptoms from the cancer and cancer continues to grow despite the use of hormones therapy (lowering of the male hormone testosterone). Your doctor needs to evaluate you to see if you would be appropriate for this therapy.
