A Unique Surgical Approach
The delicate and complex structure of the hand requires a unique surgical approach. The range of hand surgeries we provide are for congenital deficiencies such as syndactyly (webbed fingers) and for trauma, including reimplantation, the restoration of severed fingers and even whole hands as well as toe-to-hand transplantation.
Fractures are among the most common hand and wrist injuries and range from the straightforward sports-related injuries to the complex, as is seen in a motor vehicle accident where many bones are fractured throughout the body. Orthopedic surgeons of our Center have long been recognized as among the pioneers in arthroscopy, which can help return patients to normal activities in a fraction of the time once needed for healing.
It's been said that hand surgery is surgery in miniature. Much of what we do is only possible under an operating microscope or with magnification. Surgical instruments and sutures must also be miniaturized. Since the space our surgeons work in is so small and the time it takes to complete a surgical procedure is often measured in many hours, it takes endurance to get to the end successfully.
Several orthopedic surgeons will work as a team on a complex trauma case, a concentration of expertise that is simply not available in smaller hospitals.
