Plan for Your Safety
If you are planning to leave a violent situation:
- choose the safest time to do so.
- bring clothing, important papers, keys, medicines, and money with you. It’s a good idea to pack these items ahead of time
and leave them with a trusted friend or neighbor. You can pick them up after you leave.
If you have been injured by abuse:
- get medical care and ask that the injuries be written in your file.
- keep any evidence of your injuries (photographs, torn clothing, etc.) in a safe place.
- contact local resources for abused or battered women.
- tell a trusted friend or relative what is happening to you.
- plan with your children about safety. Let them know where to go for help immediately if violence breaks out.
