Emergency Department

Level 1 Regional Resource Trauma Center

Jefferson is an officially designated Level 1 Regional Resource Trauma Center. It is one of only 18 hospitals in the United States that is both an official Trauma Center and a federally designated Regional Spinal Cord Injury Center.

Patients with the most serious injuries are brought to Jefferson by emergency medical squads and by physician-initiated transfer from other hospitals. As a Level 1 Center, Jefferson also conducts research and continuing education programs for health professionals in trauma care.

Jefferson’s experienced Division of Acute Care Surgery provides the all-important surgical portion of Jefferson’s Level 1 Trauma Center. Working closely with emergency medicine specialists, Jefferson’s trauma surgeons provide state-of-the-science operative care for critical patients with all types of injuries.

The division emphasizes a team approach – with orthopedists, physiatrists and neurosurgeons working closely with the trauma team to help provide multidisciplinary care for major injuries.

In a true medical emergency, always go to the nearest emergency room or call 911.
