Jefferson operates one of two sexual assault units designated by the city and annually treats approximately 350 victims who have been brought to the Emergency Department from various parts of Philadelphia. The center provides medical care for injuries, documentation for legal purposes and prevention and treatment for possible sexually transmitted diseases and pregnancy. Medical follow-up is offered, along with counseling to reduce emotional trauma.
