Members of Jefferson's Palliative Care
Service Members of the Palliative Care Service come from a variety of medical specialties but share a commitment to patient-centered
care, expertise in pain control, symptom management and communication skills.
Barbara Reville, MS, CRNP
Assistant Director, Palliative Care Service
Ms. Reville is a Nurse Practitioner with expertise in cancer nursing and palliative care. She is certified as both an Advanced
Certified Hospice & Palliative Nurse and as a Nurse Educator. She completed the Program in Palliative Care Education and Practice
at the Harvard Medical School Center for Palliative Care in 2006.
Linda Ferguson, MSN, CRNP
Nurse Practitioner, Palliative Care Service
Ms. Ferguson is a member of the Department of Community and Family Medicine. Her clinical background includes both oncology
and family medicine.
Christine A. Arenson, MD
Administrative Director, Palliative Care Service
Dr. Arenson is board certified in Family Medicine and holds a certificate of added qualification in Geriatric Medicine. She
is the Director of the Division of Geriatric Medicine, and has administrative responsibility for the Palliative Care Service
at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.
David Axelrod, MD, JD
Medical Director, Palliative Care Service
Dr. Axelrod is a medical internist and director of Jefferson’s Sickle Cell Program. He is on the faculty of Jefferson Medical
College. Dr. Axelrod is a current participant in the Program in Palliative Care Education and Practice at the Harvard Medical
School Center for Palliative Care in 2006.
Susan M. Parks, MD
Medical Director, Palliative Care Service
Dr. Parks is certified in both Family Medicine and Geriatric Medicine. She is director of the Geriatric Fellowship program
and medical director at Chandler Hall, a long-term care facility in Newtown, PA. Dr. Parks is currently involved in research
on end of life care for patients with advanced dementia.
Robert L. Perkel, MD
Dr. Perkel is board certified in Family Medicine and is a Professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine, Jefferson
Medical College. As Co-Chair of the Thomas Jefferson University Hospital Ethics Committee, Dr. Perkel is consulted for his
expertise to mediate ethical dilemmas which occur in clinical practice throughout the hospital.
Dr. Haines, Geriatrics:
Dr. Haines is board certified in both Family Medicine and Geriatric Medicine. He is an attending physician and instructor
in the Department of Family and Community Medicine, Jefferson Medical College.
Dr. Snyderman, Geriatrics
Dr. Snyderman is board certified in Family Medicine and completed a Geriatrics Fellowship. She is an instructor in the Department
of Family and Community Medicine’s Division of Geriatrics, Jefferson Medical College.
Marcia Kravis, Certified Music Practitioner, trained with the Music for Healing and Transition Program. She plays the hammered dulcimer at the bedside for patients family
members. She is a graduate of New England Conservatory (M.M., Harpsichord Performance) and of Temple University’s Esther
Boyer College of Music (Certificate of Professional Studies in Fortepiano). She is the harpsichordist with two local baroque
music ensembles, the American Society of Ancient Instruments and Ensemble La Bernardinia. Ms. Kravis was a music and drama
specialist at The Philadelphia School from 1983-2006 and maintains her affiliation with the school as a drama consultant for
special projects.
