What’s Your Target?

Use our online calculator to determine your optimal heart rate during exercise.

Physical activity helps to promote a healthy heart and can help lower the risk of heart disease. But to maximize the benefits of exercise, you need to maintain a level of intensity.

One way to monitor the intensity of your physical activity is to see if your heart rate, or pulse, is within a target zone. By knowing your target heart rate, you can better pace yourself during exercise. Just as important, maintaining the right heart rate can help you get the most benefits from your cardiovascular activity.

Use our online calculator to find out your target heart rate zone during moderate-intensity exercise. In one simple step, the tool determines and explains your target range. It also includes instructions for measuring your own heart rate.

If you have questions about your heart rate or about starting an exercise program, make an appointment with a Jefferson physician by calling 1-800-JEFF-NOW.
