DEXA – Bone Mineral Densitometry

Methodist's Dexa scan unit can detect osteoporosis in early stages. This simple, 10-minute procedure compares the patient's bone density to that of the average bone density of a 30-year old healthy woman.
Women at age of 50 who have family history of the disease or symptoms such as unusual fractures are advised to consult with their doctor to determine if a Dexa scan is right for them. The Women's Diagnostic Center at Methodist Hospital recommends that for convenience sake, women schedule their annual mammogram and bone density scan on the same day.
