Preparing for Surgery and What to Expect
on the Day of Surgery
The Day Before Surgery
You will receive a telephone call with instructions on how
to prepare for your surgery the day before your procedure.
Instructions on when to arrive at the hospital, instructions
on taking over-the-counter and prescription medicines and
herbal remedies, and instructions on when to stop food and
beverages will be provided.
The Day of Surgery
If you have already had pre-admission testing, you do
not need to register. Go directly to the Short Procedure Unit
on the 3rd floor, and a receptionist will greet you. Note:
If you are having shoulder or elbow surgery, go to the 2nd
floor.
If you have not had pre-admission testing, you must register
first in the admissions area on the first floor.
Family and friends who accompany you can wait in a private
surgical waiting area on the first floor. A receptionist is
available in the waiting room to help answer any of your questions
or concerns.
Your family and friends can visit you once you are moved
to the short procedure unit for recovery. Since this is not
a private recovery room, we encourage only 1 or 2 visitors
at a time.
Parking in the Methodist Hospital garage is free to surgical
patients. Once you are discharged, we will be happy to assist
you in returning to your vehicle.
