Methodist Hospital’s FREE Health Expo Brings Entertainment, Activities, a Talent Show, and Health Screenings to the Community

WHO:
Calling all moms, dads, kids, grandparents and residents of South Philadelphia and beyond! The entire community is invited to a free-to-the-public health expo, where there will be something for everyone

WHAT:
Methodist Hospital Division of Thomas Jefferson University Hospital’s annual Health Expo. The 2006 Expo will feature entertainment and activities for adults and kids, a children’s talent show (prior registration was required and ended in August), appearances by cartoon characters, free health screenings (see list below), and taping of the television show Happenings with WOGL personality Bob Pantano.

Saturday, September 30, 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

WHERE:
Methodist Hospital
Wolf Street entrance (corner of Broad and Wolf Streets)

DETAILS:
FREE health screenings include: blood pressure screening; prostate cancer PSA testing; foot screening; glucose and cholesterol screenings (fasting is recommended). Stroke risk assessments and mammograms will also be provided but appointments need to be scheduled in advance. For a stroke risk assessment, call 1-800-JEFF-NOW. For a mammogram, call 215-952-9958.

A wealth of valuable health information will also be provided during the expo on topics including nutrition, smoking cessation, breast health, heart disease prevention, bike safety, and medication safety. Colorectal E-Z Detect Kits will be available as well. Health and medical specialists will be on hand to answer any questions.

Some of the day’s family activities* will include pictures with cartoon characters, balloon sculptures, ice cream sundaes, cookie decorating, face painting, games, a DJ, a live string band and, of course, the Children’s Talent Show. *There is a small fee for some activities and food.
