The aim of the Brain Attack Program at Jefferson Hospital for Neuroscience (JHN), sponsored by the National Council of Stroke,
is to make potential patients aware of our new, more aggressive treatments for stroke and what to do when recognizable symptoms
occur.
These new therapies require rapid and accurate diagnosis of the cause of stroke and the location of its origin in the brain.
If treatment is begun within six hours of symptom onset, the likelihood of complete recovery from stroke can be increased
by 50 percent.
Therefore, JHN’s approach to treating sudden onset of stroke and cerebral vascular malfunctions (i.e., blood clots in the
brain), unlike that of many other institutions, is similar to that for other medical emergencies, including heart attacks.
Our paramedics, emergency medical technicians and other emergency personnel know what to do for incoming stroke victims. Because
they are so prepared, they increase by 50 percent a patient’s chances for the best possible recovery from stroke.
