The Stroke Center at Jefferson Hospital for Neuroscience is one of the most advanced centers in the United States for the
diagnosis, management, prevention and research of stroke. It is the largest facility dedicated to the care of acute stroke
in the greater Delaware Valley.
The Jefferson Stroke Center has been recognized as a place for the “Best Care in Philadelphia” and as “one of the most advanced
centers in the United States for stroke prevention, diagnosis, treatment and research” by Philadelphia magazine.
The Stroke Center’s approach to care is also multidisciplinary, incorporating, as the needs of each individual patient demand,
the expertise of Thomas Jefferson University Hospital’s extensive medical staff of leading specialists in various disciplines,
and accounting, in large part, for our recognition as a center of excellence.
One current example of the advantages of this approach is the center’s ongoing collaboration with the Cardiac Catheterization
Laboratory within the Division of Cardiology of Thomas Jefferson University Hospital’s Department of Medicine to test the
safety and effectiveness of a minimally invasive procedure to seal a flap that can be present between the two upper chambers
of the heart. The procedure could prove helpful in preventing recurrence of stroke in certain patients between the ages of
20 and 55. Read more about this procedure.
In addition, the researchers at the Jefferson Stroke Center are focused on investigating additional prevention strategies,
as well as new treatments for acute stroke.
The Jefferson Stroke Center’s goal is to help each patient achieve the best outcome through the advanced medicine and superior
care for which Thomas Jefferson University Hospital is recognized nationally.
