1862 - W.W. Keen graduates from Jefferson Medical College. America's first "brain surgeon" later co-authors monograph of 120 Civil War patients, Gunshot Wounds and other Injuries of Nerves

1887 - W.W. Keen removes intracranial meningioma from T. Daveler who lives more than 30 years - first documented successful removal of an intracranial tumor in America

1896 - W.W. Keen and surgery team secretly remove verrucous carcinoma from President Grover Cleveland aboard yacht Oneida

1940 - American Board of Neurological Surgery established

1943 - Division of Neurosurgery established at Thomas Jefferson University

1949 - Jefferson residents graduate, Stacy L. Rollins, Jr., performs first cerebral catheter angiography (In 1972 Dr. Rollins removes spinal bullet from George Wallace)

1957 - Tai Joon Moon, M.D. graduates from Jefferson residency; later introduces national health insurance for entire population as senator in Korean National Assembly

1984 - Jewell L. Osterholm, M.D. awarded inventor of the year by Intellectual Property Owners, Inc. for the invention of oxygenerated fluorocarbon in the treatment of stroke
