Gynecologic Oncologist David F. Silver, M.D., Joins Thomas Jefferson University Hospital
David F. Silver, M.D., has joined the Division of Gynecologic Oncology in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Thomas
Jefferson University Hospital, Philadelphia. He has also been appointed assistant professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at
Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University. He came to Jefferson after serving as director, Division of Gynecologic
Oncology, at the Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Va.
He sees patients at the Jefferson Center for Gynecologic Oncology in Jefferson's Gibbon Building, suite 6200.
Dr. Silver received a bachelor of science degree from the College of William and Mary in 1988. He received a doctor of medicine
degree from Jefferson Medical College in 1992.
He completed a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, in 1996. In 1994, during his
residency training, Dr. Silver was awarded the honor of serving a Gallaway Gyn Oncology Fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering
Cancer Institute in New York City. In 1996, he began a fellowship in gynecologic oncology at the Roswell Park Cancer Institute,
Buffalo, N.Y., and also served as clinical instructor in the Division of Gynecologic Oncology at the Roswell Park Cancer Institute.
Dr. Silver then served as a clinical instructor in the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore
from 1999 to 2001.
In April 2000, Dr. Silver took a clerkship in Radical Pelvic Resection and Reconstruction at the Leipzig Universitats Frauenklinic
in Leipzig, Germany. From 2001 to 2002 he was an assistant professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the
Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven. In 2002, he became assistant professor in the Department of Obstetrics and
Gynecology at the Eastern Virginia Medical School, in Norfolk, Va.
Dr. Silver is board certified in both obstetrics and gynecology and gynecologic oncology. He is a member of numerous professional
societies including the American Medical Association, Society of Gynecologic Oncologists, American College of Obstetricians
and Gynecologists, American Association for Cancer Research, American Society of Clinical Oncologists, Mid-Atlantic Gynecologic
Oncology Society and Society of Laparoscopic Surgeons.
His research interests include ovarian and cervical cancers. He has been published in journals such as Cancer, Gynecologic
Oncology and American Journal of Clinical Oncology.
The Jefferson Center for Gynecologic Oncology specializes in the treatment of all gynecologic cancers. The Center has a multidisciplinary
approach to the treatment of cancer and coordinates surgery, radiation therapy and chemotherapy as needed for individual patients.
