HEAL Program Teaches Healthy Eating and Lifestyle Habits
Do you struggle to eat well and keep to a healthy lifestyle? Would you like help in integrating nutrition, exercise and stress
management?
Enroll in the Jefferson-Myrna Brind Center for Integrative Medicine’s HEAL (Healthy Eating and Lifestyle) program coordinated
by Joel Edman, D.Sc., FACN, Director of Integrative Nutrition, to learn healthy eating techniques for a better lifestyle.
Two six-week sessions are available. Each session is 90 minutes. The Monday program is held from 6 to 7:30 p.m., from September
27 to November 1; the Wednesday program is held from 10:30 a.m. to noon, from September 30 to November 4.
The six week intensive HEAL program features a support group format with a focus on individualized guidelines. Participants
will learn to address challenging issues such as barriers to change, emotional eating, self care and to develop a framework
for achieving short-term and long-term goals. Individuals will learn practical nutritional guidelines for balancing meals
and identifying healthful snacks with menus and recipes. Exercise guidelines with different types and amounts of exercise
and techniques to deal with stress are also included. By using a step-by-step approach, people can find what works best for
them quickly and easily. The fee for this program is $195.
Dr. Edman will also offer small group HEAL seminars to provide general nutrition counseling. On the first Thursday of each
month, from 3:30 to 5 p.m., the session will address the nutrition needs of cancer patients. On the second Thursday of every
month, from 5:30 to 7 p.m., the sessions will be open to the general public to discuss health and diet issues. The small group
HEAL seminars are limited to 12 participants. The fee is $30 per person.
