Thomas Jefferson University Hospital is Philadelphia Consumers’ Choice for Health Care for 2004/2005
Consumers of health care in the Greater Philadelphia area for the eighth year in a row have once again selected Thomas Jefferson
University Hospital for its advanced medicine and superior care. Jefferson Hospital has been awarded the 2004/2005 Consumer
Choice Award by the National Research Corporation (NRC) for being an innovator and leader in health care in Philadelphia.
NRC annually conducts a national study of nearly 160,000 households to learn from consumers which hospitals they prefer. Jefferson
was again cited by the NRC for being a trusted provider of quality healthcare, attentive to the needs of patients and an innovator
in new medical advances, said NRC President Michael Hays, in announcing the award.
"We are so pleased to recognize Thomas Jefferson University Hospital for being singled out as a leader by those they serve,
" Mr. Hays said.
Jefferson Hospital President and CEO Thomas J. Lewis said he and the entire staff are proud to receive this honor again. “It’s
very gratifying to know that the community we serve holds Jefferson Hospital is such high regard,” he said.
Thomas Jefferson University Hospital has major programs for heart disease, cancer treatment, neuroscience, high-risk childbirth,
genetics, radiology, orthopaedics, digestive diseases and many other areas of medicine and surgery. It is one of only a few
hospitals in the United States that is both a Level I Trauma Center and a federally designated regional spinal cord injury
center. Jefferson’s Kimmel Cancer Center is designated as a clinical cancer center by the National Cancer Institute.
Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and the hospitals of the Jefferson Cancer Network offer free screenings for breast, skin
and prostate cancers. There are several free support groups.
U.S.News and World Report has consistently ranked many of Jefferson's services as among the best in the nation. These include rehabilitation, cardiology/cardiac
surgery, orthopaedics, digestive disorders (gastroenterology), geriatrics, gynecology, neurology and neurosurgery, which are
both based at Jefferson Hospital for Neuroscience, otolaryngology - head and neck surgery, and urology.
