EVENT: The “Village of Arts and Humanities” will receive the first annual Excellence in Community Service Award presented by JEFF Safety Awareness and Public Health Education (SAPHE) and the Jefferson Public Health Society (JPHS). The Village of Arts and Humanities, located in North Philadelphia, is a community-based organization devoted to arts education and neighborhood development. This award is given to organizations that go above and beyond the call of duty with respect to the issue of public health.

BACKGROUND: In support of National Public Health Week, two Thomas Jefferson University student organizations, the JEFF Safety Awareness and Public Health Education (SAPHE) and the Jefferson Public Health Society (JPHS), have organized a week-long series of programs, lectures and free health screenings. JEFF SAPHE is composed of students in the Master of Science in Public Health program at the Jefferson College of Graduate Studies. Members of the JPHS are Jefferson Medical College students interested in exploring the arena of public health.
