Jefferson Offers Free Interactive Internet-Based Program to Stop Smoking During Great American Smokeout
In recognition of the national Great American Smokeout on Thursday, Nov. 18, which encourages smokers to join in the fight
against cancer, Jefferson is offering free access to a web-based customized personal program to help smokers quit smoking.
The SmokeStoppers internet-based program is a fully interactive, individually-tailored program that utilizes an easy-to-follow
system to assist users in improving their health. Program content is tailored to each user based on his or her unique personal
profile and smoking history.
The program is delivered daily by e-mail in the form of a personal Daily Action Plan—which offers a proven way to unlearn
a hard-to-break habit such as smoking. The program can be accessed from any computer—at home, office or other place.
The SmokeStoppers program, which is offered as a benefit to Jefferson employees at no cost but normally has a $39 price tag
for the public, is divided into three phases.
Phase I is the SmokeStoppers Countdown, the five-day period that leads to a quit day. Participants are asked to keep track
of each cigarette during this period.
Phase II is Learning to Stop, which includes the day the smoker quits and the three days that follow.
Phase III is called Staying Smoke-Free. It consists of 12 days filled with the information and strategies participants need
to manage stress, avoid weight gain and remain smoke-free forever.
Jefferson is offering access to this program to the public for the 10 days following the Great American Smokeout at no cost.
To begin to become smoke free, log on to
www.jeffersonhospital.org/smokestoppers from Thursday, Nov. 18 to Sunday, Nov. 28.
