Jefferson Medical Students Hold Charity Ball to Recognize Selfless Volunteer Efforts on Behalf of Homeless
JeffHOPE’s 2005 Annual Charity Ball will be Friday, March 4, at 7 p.m. in the Ballroom at the Ben Franklin House
EVENT:
JeffHOPE (Health, Opportunity, Prevention and Education), a Jefferson Medical College student-run organization, will honor
two members of the Jefferson community and a non-profit organization, who have donated valuable time and expertise to caring
for the homeless, at its eighth annual charity ball. The charity ball also helps to raise funds for the continued support
of medical clinics JeffHOPE maintains at Philadelphia homeless shelters.

M. Allyson Brown, M.D.
Instructor in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University, will be honored for her
volunteer work with the women and children’s clinic at ACTS of the Apostles Shelter.
Daniel DeJoseph
Fourth-Year Jefferson Medical College student, to be honored for his tireless efforts at the Prevention Point Philadelphia
Center as a student doctor and patient advocate.
Administration and Staff of the Eliza Shirley Shelter House
The Emergency Center for women and their children will be recognized for their partnership, loyalty and assistance in setting
up the newest JeffHOPE medical clinic for homeless population.
BACKGROUND:
JeffHOPE (Health, Opportunity, Prevention and Education), a student-run organization of Jefferson Medical College and the
Jefferson College of Health Professions of Thomas Jefferson University, provides free medical care to the homeless and underserved
of Philadelphia.
Students at Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University in 1991 founded JeffHOPE to provide dignified, accessible
and top-quality health care to the city’s homeless and underserved populations. At the same time, the health professional
students are given an opportunity to serve the community while learning medical skills and working as members of interdisciplinary
teams.
