A symposium on translating advances in cardiovascular medicine is scheduled for Friday, June 10, in the Bluemle Life Sciences Building at Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia.  The program is geared toward sharing research and information--and helping Jefferson graduate students and post-doctoral fellows grow as scientists by presenting their research to peers.

“This event will provide a great opportunity for discussion about the work-in-progress that is being carried out in our labs by our students and fellows,” said Donna Woulfe, Ph.D., assistant professor of Medicine, Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University. “It will also provide a forum for collaboration among researchers.”

Presentations will cover various aspects of translational and cardiovascular medicine including: thrombosis and the path to a heart attack, atherosclerosis, blood pressure regulation and the biology of heart failure. Awards will be presented for the best posters and talks.

The symposium is organized by the Center for Translational Medicine in the Department of Medicine at Jefferson.

Faculty presenters include James Zangrilli, M.D., assistant professor of Medicine, Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University, and Donna Woulfe, Ph. D.

Steven Houser, Ph.D., Laura H. Carnell Professor of Physiology and co-director, Cardiovascular Research Group, Temple University, will conclude the day with a keynoter on  the “Causes of Heart Failure and Opportunities for Novel Therapies.”

The Center for Translational Medicine is the focal point for research in the Department of Medicine at Jefferson.
