Jefferson Study to Evaluate Impact of Carbohydrates for People with Type 2 Diabetes

Physicians and nutritionists at the Jefferson-Myrna Brind Center for Integrative Medicine at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital are conducting a study to learn if a diet low in carbohydrates is an effective approach to improving blood sugar levels and glycemic control for people who have type 2 diabetes.

You may qualify for this study if you:

  • Are between 18 and 75 years old
  • Have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes
  • Have normal kidney function
  • Have hemoglobin A1c between 7.0 and 9.0
  • Use an oral medicine for control of diabetes and do not take insulin

Participants must be able to follow dietary and exercise guidelines and attend monthly group meetings for three months. Meetings will last approximately 90 minutes.

Study participants will receive important diet and exercise information. They will also receive $50 upon completion of the study.
