Cristina G. Cavalieri, J.D., BSN has been named vice president and university counsel at Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia. She joins Jefferson from the law firm of Pelino & Lentz, P.C. where she was a partner and chair of its health care department. Ms. Cavalieri was also active in governmental relations.

At Thomas Jefferson University, Ms. Cavalieri is the chief legal advisor to the president of the University, Robert Barchi, M.D., and other members of the senior leadership of Jefferson Medical College (JMC), Jefferson University Physicians (JUP) and the Colleges of Graduate Studies and Health Professions. She is also chief advisor to the TJU and JUP boards on matters relating to governance, fiduciary duties and responsibilities, and Sarbanes-Oxley matters.

Prior to attending law school at Temple University School of Law, where she received a Juris Doctorate in 1983, Ms. Cavalieri was a critical care nurse. She received a BSN in 1980 from the College of New Jersey in Ewing, N.J., and an R.N. in 1970 from New York’s Misericordia Hospital School of Nursing.

Active in the legal community, Ms. Cavalieri is a frequent lecturer on health care matters, corporate governance and issues arising in joint ventures between for-profit and not-for-profit entities.

She is a member of numerous professional societies. At the Philadelphia Bar Association, Ms. Cavalieri is immediate past chairperson of the Health Law Committee and is also a member of the Section of Corporation, Banking and Business Law. She is also a member of the American Health Lawyers Association, the American Bar Association--Section of Corporation, Banking and Business Law--and the Justinian Society where she is a member of the Board.
