Kimmel Cancer Center at Jefferson to Hold Workshop for Young Adult Cancer Survivors on Understanding Follow-up Testing After Treatment

The Kimmel Cancer Center at Jefferson will hold a workshop for young adult cancer patients on understanding follow-up testing after cancer treatment, Thursday, March 2, 2006.

The workshop, which is part of a new support program, “Navigating the New Normal,” will be presented from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the Bluemle Life Sciences Building, Room 101, 233 South 10th St., Philadelphia.  Refreshments and free parking will be provided.

Networking and a discussion will follow the talk by medical oncologist Joanne Filicko, M.D., of the blood and marrow transplant program, Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.  Her discussion will emphasize the crucial role that various follow-up tests play in promoting healthy survivorship and well-being in young adult survivors.

Thanks to a grant from the Lance Armstrong Foundation, the Kimmel Cancer Center’s “Navigating the New Normal” offers a comprehensive psychological support and education program to help young adult cancer survivors between the ages of 18 to 40 navigate the “new normal” that a cancer diagnosis can bring.
