Surgical Oncologist Eugene P. Kennedy, M.D., Joins Department of Surgery, Thomas Jefferson University Hospital
Surgical Oncologist Eugene P. Kennedy, M.D., has joined the Department of Surgery of Thomas Jefferson University Hospital,
Philadelphia. He has also been named assistant professor of surgery, Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University.
Prior to joining Jefferson, Dr. Kennedy served as assistant professor of surgery at Louisiana State University Health Sciences
Center, New Orleans. Earlier, he served as assistant chief of service and instructor in surgery at Johns Hopkins Medical
Institution in Baltimore.
A board certified surgeon who specializes in gastrointestinal disorders, Dr. Kennedy is an associate member of the American
College of Surgeons and a candidate member of the Society of Surgical Oncologists. He has written abstracts, book chapters
and peer reviewed articles on colorectal cancer and immune tolerance.
He completed a surgical oncology fellowship, a surgical research fellowship and a general surgery residency, all at Johns
Hopkins, where he received a National Institutes of Health gastrointestinal training grant. He also served as a surgical
registrar at Beaumont Hospital in Dublin, Ireland.
Dr. Kennedy received a doctor of medicine degree from the Medical College of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University in
1996. He received a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Virginia in 1990.
