Get on the path to good health with a windfall of free seminars and screenings offered by Methodist Hospital.

  • Diabetes Class I:

Learn how to better monitor your glucose levels and effective ways to control your blood sugar. Led by diabetes educator Barbara Drake, R.N., MSM, CDE, sessions will also provide advice about healthy meal planning. Classes will be held the first Wednesday of every month.

Dates: May 3, June 7, July 5, August 2

Time: 3 to 4:30 p.m.

Place:Methodist Hospital, Doctors’ Dining Room

  • Warning Signs of a Stroke:

Enjoy a cooking demonstration and a heart healthy dinner, while Cardiologist Glenn Cooper, M.D., discusses warning signs of stroke. Pre-registration is required and seating is limited.

Date: Thursday, May 18

Time: 6 to 8 p.m.

Place: Methodist Hospital, Morgan Conference Center

  • Diabetes Class II:

Exercise and weight control are crucial in diabetes management. Receive meal planning tips from a registered dietician to help you control your weight and blood sugar. Classes will be held on the third Wednesday of every month.

Dates: April 19, May 17, June 21, July 19, August 16

Time: 3 to 4:30 p.m.

Place: Methodist Hospital, Doctors’ Dining Room

  • Women’s Health Fair:

Experience a morning full of free health screenings and advice just for women. Topics that will be discussed include: Gauging your risk for breast cancer and osteoporosis and women’s heart health. Glucose and cholesterol screenings will be provided. By appointment, a free dexascan test may be completed to detect the presence of osteoporosis.

Date: Thursday, April 20

Time: 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Place: Methodist Hospital, Morgan Conference Center

Along with these seminars, Methodist Hospital will offer several classes for patients dealing with various types of cancer.

  • Living Beyond Breast Cancer:

Five year breast cancer survivor, Phyllis H. Allen, Esq., who also is a trained LBBC Survivors’ Helpline volunteer, will share her story. Date: Thursday, April 20

Time: 10 to 11 a.m.

Place: Methodist Hospital, Morgan Conference Center

  • Free Cancer Workshop:

This workshop helps cancer patients and their loved ones cope with cancer. Refreshments will be served.

Date: Wednesday, April 26

Time: 2:00 p.m.

Place: Tindley Temple United Methodist Church
