Andrea Cooper of Texas will tell “Kristen’s Story,” a mother’s tale of her daughter’s date rape, at a reception in recognition of Rape Awareness Month. The free event is sponsored by the Jefferson Student Organization Against Rape (SOAR).

BACKGROUND:
A 20-year-old Alpha Chi Omega sorority member, Kristin Cooper committed suicide shortly after she was raped by a friend in 1995. Her mother, Andrea, decided to share her daughter’s tragedy with college students across the nation.

“I’m sharing this because I hope by telling Kristin’s story that other lives will be saved, and other young women will not be victims of acquaintance rape, and that those suffering from depression, for ANY reason, will get help,” Andrea explained.
