Jefferson’s Trauma Fair Offers How-to on Preventing Major Accidents and Injuries

EVENT:
Trauma injuries can occur even during daily activities like riding a bike or in a car. Organizations in the Philadelphia area
who respond to such traumas want the public to know how to prevent them and will demonstrate these measures at the Trauma
Fair for Prevention and Outreach sponsored by Thomas Jefferson University Hospital’s Trauma Program and the Trauma Nurse Committee.
Representatives from Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), Magee Rehab, the Philadelphia Fire Department, Philadelphia and
Pennsylvania State Police, the Pennsylvania division of the American Trauma Society, as well as Jefferson University Hospital’s
trauma team will show ways in which people can act in a safer manner to avoid preventable traumas.
Representatives from Jefferson University Hospital departments including the Regional Spinal Cord Injury Center, JeffSTAT,
nursery, pediatrics, nursing, environmental health and safety and security will also provide trauma prevention tips.
The Trauma Program at Jefferson will also be selling bicycle helmets for $8.00 each.
Background:
Jefferson is an officially designated Level 1 Regional
Resource Trauma Center. It is one of only 18 hospitals in
the U.S. that are both a designated Trauma Center and a Regional Spinal Cord Injury Center. Patients with the most serious
injuries are brought to Jefferson by the emergency medical squads and by physician-initiated transfer from other hospitals.
As a Level 1 Trauma Center, Jefferson also conducts research and continuing education programs for health professionals in
trauma care.
