John R. Cohn, M.D., has been named to head the Adult Allergy Section in the division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Thomas Jefferson University.

Named numerous times as “Top Doc” by Philadelphia Magazine for Allergy and Immunology, Dr. Cohn has also been mentioned in the “Guide to America’s Top Physicians,” published by the Consumer’s Research Council of America. He sees patients at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and also in private practice.

During his tenure at Jefferson, Dr. Cohn has taken an active role in the Allergy and Pulmonary Fellowship Programs, specifically strengthening the training in the area of adult allergy and asthma care. The fellowship program in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Thomas Jefferson University prepares physicians to manage pulmonary diseases and general critical care problems. The Allergy and Immunology fellowship program at Thomas Jefferson University prepares physicians trained in Internal Medicine or Pediatrics to manage allergic and immunologic diseases in adults and children. Fellows are also educated in the design and execution of basic or clinical research.

Dr. Cohn is one of a small group of physicians trained and board certified in Allergy and Immunology and in Pulmonary Medicine. He is also board certified in Internal Medicine. He is clinical professor of Medicine and clinical assistant professor of Pediatrics at Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University where he has been a member of the faculty since 1982. He is President-Elect of the Medical Staff of Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and serves on numerous committees for Jefferson Medical College and Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.

Active in many professional organizations, Dr. Cohn serves as Chair of the Practice Diagnostics and Therapeutics Committee of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (AAAAI) where he is also a member of the Indoor Allergen Committee. He is a fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians, the American College of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology, and the AAAAI. He has authored numerous publications in scientific journals and has been asked to speak on the diagnosis and treatment of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in a variety of professional settings.

The division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Thomas Jefferson University delivers comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic services for the entire spectrum of diseases that affect the respiratory system. The division has special programs in asthma, emphysema and interstitial lung disease and enjoys a national reputation in asthma research and in management of difficult asthmatic conditions.
