Oscar Irigoyen, M.D., has joined the division of Rheumatology at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital as Director of the Rheumatology Clinical Practice. He is a general rheumatologist who specializes in the treatment of patients with such conditions as arthritis, osteoporosis, scleroderma, vasculitis, lupus and Sjogren’s Syndrome.

Dr. Irigoyen received a doctor of medicine degree from Buenos Aires University School of Medicine in 1972. He completed a residency in Internal Medicine in 1976 at the Medical Research Institute of Buenos Aires. In 1981, he completed a second fellowship in Rheumatology at the College of Physicians and Surgeons (P & S) of Columbia University in New York City.

In 1982, he was named assistant professor of medicine at Columbia P & S. He moved to the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 1983 where he was named assistant professor of Medicine and of Microbiology & Immunology. In 1987, he returned to Columbia University to become assistant professor of Clinical Medicine. In 1995 he was named associate clinical professor of Medicine, a position he held until 2006.

Dr. Irigoyen is a member of the American College of Rheumatology and the New York Rheumatism Association. He is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology.

He has been published in such journals as the Journal of Clinical Investigation and Journal of Immunology. He has also contributed numerous chapters to academic and medical texts.
