Counseling and Support
Embarking on a program involving reproductive technologies is a major decision. Many people see it as renewed hope for conception
as well as their last resort. While high-tech reproductive medicine has helped many couples overcome their infertility, it
is not the answer for everyone.
For those who choose this approach, the process can be emotionally, physically and financially draining, and carries with
it a tremendous amount of anxiety.
Couples undergoing fertility treatment may feel as though they are riding an emotional roller coaster – from hope at the beginning
of treatment to disappointment, even devastation, if a treatment fails. At times the demands of therapy may seem to take over
their lives. These feelings are common among couples in this situation. During this difficult and challenging time, our staff
is available to answer questions and respond to a couple’s concerns.
We regard emotional support and counseling as an important adjunct to treatment. We want to help patients maximize their coping
skills during this stressful time, and for this reason offer psychological counseling at some of our sites. We offer couples
assistance with decision making and an opportunity to explore their feelings. Additional sources of support and information
are also available.
Resources
We encourage those considering reproductive medicine to attend our Patient Information Seminars offered regularly at some
of our locations. The seminars cover various facets of treatment including medical indications, treatment procedures, IVF
laboratory procedures, medications and success rates. Please call for times and dates of seminars.
