Vincenzo Berghella, MD
Director, Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine
Dr. Berghella received his BA degree from Manhattanville College in 1986, and his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College,
Summa Cum Laude in 1990. His residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology was completed at New York Downtown Hospital in 1994. He
then completed his fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at Jefferson Medical College in 1996. He was board certified in Obstetrics
and Gynecology (1997), and subspecialty in Maternal-Fetal Medicine in 1999. He is a member in the American College of Obstetrics
and Gynecology and the Society of Maternal-Fetal Medicine. He is currently a Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and
Gynecology, Jefferson Medical College and is the Director of the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine and Director of the Maternal-Fetal
Medicine Fellowship Program.
Stuart Weiner, MD
Director, Division of Reproductive Imaging
Dr. Weiner earned his BS from Princeton University in 1968 and his M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1972. He completed
his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1976 and his fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine in 1980, both at Pennsylvania
Hospital, Philadelphia, PA. He is certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology in Obstetrics and Gynecology
and Maternal-Fetal Medicine, and recently was re-certified in both. His areas of special interest include obstetric ultrasound
(especially fetal echocardiography and Doppler blood flow) and prenatal diagnosis and management of congenital anomalies and
multiple pregnancies. At Jefferson he is an Associate Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Director
in the Division of Reproductive Imaging.
Lauren Plante, MD, MPH
Dr. Plante is a graduate of Albert Einstein College of Medicine. She completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology
at MCP-Hahnamenn University and her fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at Temple University, both in Philadelphia. In
addition, she completed a residency in Anesthesiology and a fellowship in Critical Care Medicine at Albert Einstein in New
York. Dr. Plante is board certified in Anesthesiology, Critical Care Medicine, General Obstetrics and Gynecology and Maternal-Fetal
Medicine. In 2006 Dr. Plante received her Masters in Public Health from John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Her
specific areas of interest are maternal medical conditions complicating pregnancy, maternal mortality, and critical care obstetrics.
She is also interested in the application of simulation technology to postgraduate medical education. She is currently an
Assistant Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Jefferson Medical College.
Jason Baxter, MD, MSCP
Dr. Baxter graduated from Princeton University with a Bachelors in Science and Engineering. He received his medical degree
from the University of Texas Medical Branch. He completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Abington University
and his fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at Thomas Jefferson University. Dr. Baxter completed an NIH-sponsored fellowship
in Human Investigation, receiving a Masters of Science in Clinical Pharmacology from Thomas Jefferson University. He is board
certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Maternal-Fetal Medicine. His research interests include cesarean delivery, placental
disorders and pharmacology in pregnancy. He is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology,
Jefferson Medical College.
Adele Schneider, MD
Schneider is a graduate of the Witwatersrand University Medical School, Johannesburg, South Africa. She completed her residency
at Wilmington Medical Center in Pediatrics and Fellowship in Genetics and Metabolic diseases at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
She has been a Geneticist at Albert Einstein Medical Center for the past 15 years and Director of Clinical Genetics at Albert
Einstein Medical Center since 1992. On consulting staff of Neonatal Intensive Care Units at all Main Line Health hospitals
and at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. She is a Consultant to Maternal Fetal Medicine at Thomas Jefferson University
Hospital and Genzyme Genetics.
Dr. Schneider is the Director of the Anophthalmia/microphthalmia (small or absent eyes) Registry at Albert Einstein Medical
Center (AEMC) with coordination of expanded research into gene screening of eye development genes looking for the genetic
causes of anophthalmia.
Dr. Schneider is Director of the Victor Center for Jewish Genetic Disease Screening at AEMC. This program includes education
and outreach, genetic counseling and testing for the autosomal recessive disorders which are more common in the Ashkenazi
Jewish community.
Her Interests include pediatric and fetal dysmorphology, prenatal and cancer genetics.
Carol Sudtelgte, M.S., C.N.M.
Carol Sudtelgte received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Minnesota in 1978 and her Masters of Science
in Nursing from the University of Pennsylvania in 1991. Carol is a Certified Nurse Midwife who has practiced full-scope midwifery
in the Philadelphia area since 1992. She is a clinical preceptor for the University of Pennsylvania Midwifery and Women’s
Health programs as well as for the Institute of Midwifery at Philadelphia University. She joins the department’s division
of Maternal Fetal Medicine to help coordinate care for women with special medical needs during their pregnancy.
