The Jefferson Discharge Unit (JDU), located in 1950 Gibbon Building, provides a relaxed and comfortable area where our discharged
patients can enjoy light refreshments and watch television while they wait for their ride home. While patients are in the
JDU, nurses review discharge instructions and assist patients in filling prescriptions at the Jefferson Apothecary. Case Managers
are also available for support.
Family members picking up discharged patients can park in the InterPark Garage across from the 10th Street entrance to Gibbon
(the main hospital building). Remember to take your parking ticket with you when you leave the garage. There is a pedestrian
bridge between the garage and the Gibbon Building for convenient access to the hospital. When you enter the hospital, please
see the Security Officer at the desk in the lobby area. The Security Officer will contact the JDU staff to transport the
patient to the lobby area.
Please ask the security officer to validate your parking ticket (or to direct you to where you can do it yourself). Your officially
validated ticket entitles you to Jefferson’s special patient and visitor parking discount.
Family members can also drive to the Emergency Department entrance of the hospital, located in the Main Building on 10th Street between Sansom and Walnut Streets. Park your car, enter the lobby and notify the Security Officer that you are picking
up a patient from the JDU. The Officer will call the JDU and ask them to transport the patient to the Main Building lobby.
The JDU is open Monday through Friday, 9am to 9pm, excluding holidays.
