New Patient Rooms

Jefferson's Newly Renovated Patient Rooms

During your stay at Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals, you can enjoy newly renovated patient rooms on the 3rd and 4th floors of the Gibbon Building.

4th Floor of Gibbon Building

The 4 East/West Medical and Surgical ICU rooms are now equipped with:

  • Patient lifts. A hydraulic system that allows our nurses to rotate a patient in the bed – which reduces bed sores – and to easily transfer patients to wheelchairs or another bed.
  • Hill-Rom Latitude™ Dual-Arm System. These flexible arms provide additional space in patient rooms for lighting, patient monitors, lifts, IV poles, power supplies, baskets for medical supplies and more.
  • Sliding breakaway doors with eglass. Our new breakaway doors allow the staff to easily move patients in and out of a room. The doors are equipped with eglass, which creates a translucent window for patient privacy instead of the need for curtains and is better for infection control.
  • In-wall dialysis hook-ups. Convenient access to dialysis machines.
  • New flat-screen TVs.

The corridors of 4 East/West feature:

  • Rubber flooring. This is a greener flooring solution that absorbs sounds and is comfortable for patients and staff to walk on.
  • Expanded areas for family waiting rooms. There are two family waiting rooms on the 4th floor, each equipped with new flat-screen TVs, comfortable seating areas and a private consultation area for families to talk with their doctor.
  • New isolation rooms. For controlling infections.
  • Adequate lighting for patients and staff.
  • 3rd Floor of Gibbon Building

The Medical ICUs on the 3rd floor of Gibbon feature many of the same renovations as the 4th floor as well as new ones, including:

    • Reconfigured patient bathrooms to provide better convenience
    • Rubber flooring
    • New finishes in rooms and corridors
    • New room doors and windows with curtains, which can be closed for privacy
    • New in-patient pharmacy
    • New isolation rooms
