DEPARTMENT OF PEDIATRICS

About Us

Thomas Jefferson University, the duPont Hospital for Children, and the Medical Center of Delaware are affiliated in a program that provides a regional system of pediatric care, with the Institute serving as the system's children's hospital. Research and many clinical services are provided cooperatively in the system.

Families close to Philadelphia continue to have access to general and specialty pediatric care at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital; specialized outpatient pediatric rehabilitation services are also provided at Children's Rehabilitation Hospital at Jefferson. In Wilmington, Delaware, the duPont Hospital for Children's 128-bed facility is designed around the needs of the hospitalized child. Building on its historic reputation as a world-class pediatric orthopaedic center, the duPont Hospital for Children has, in recent decades, become a full-service pediatric medical center. The Medical Center of Delaware's Christiana Hospital offers general pediatric care as well as specialized care in areas such as neonatology, cardiac surgery and pediatric trauma.

Research within the affiliated system is also concentrated at the duPont Hospital for Children and includes significant programs in applied science and engineering in rehabilitation; clinical medical sciences in a host of areas; and developmental biology, including a leading effort in teratology.
