Infant apnea is a challenging diagnostic and therapeutic problem in pediatrics. Jefferson's staff provides a comprehensive examination of infants and children who have sleep-related breathing disorders. With both fixed and portable evaluation units, the team employs a polysomnographic approach as they identify breathing patterns, and measure nasal and oral air flow, as well as blood oxygen saturation levels, noninvasively. Caring for both referred patients and many term and preterm infants from Jefferson's nurseries, Jeff neonatolgists evaluate, and in some cases treat, congenital or neurologic defects, as well as infections, seizures and other contributors to apneaic conditions.
