William Morrison, MD,
Director
The General Diagnostic Division is divided into the following sections: Thoracic Radiology, Abdominal Imaging, and Musculoskeletal
Radiology. The division is located on the third floor of the Gibbon Building and is, in addition, responsible for the radiologic
activities of the Edison Building’s Sports Medicine Center, the Emergency Department, radiography at the Jefferson Hospital
for the Neurosciences, the Pre-Admission Testing Center, and two outpatient clinics. There are nine full-time staff members
in the Division and two others who also participate in clinical activities of other divisions, in addition to a dedicated
diagnostic radiologic physicist and quality assurance technologist. The General Diagnostic Radiology Division performs over
117,000 studies each year, including plain film radiography, intravenous urography, upper and lower gastrointestinal examinations,
hysterosalpingography, percutaneous bone and pulmonary aspiration biopsies, localization procedures, and arthrography. Musculoskeletal
MRI and CT are performed in the General Division. The Division has four state-of-the-art remote control fluoroscopic rooms,
and one tableside fluoroscopic room, as well as polytomography and general radiographic rooms.
The residents rotate through the Thoracic Section for four months and in the Abdominal Section and Bone Section for a total
of three months each. In addition, there is a one-year fellowship in Musculoskeletal Radiology and several post-doctoral research
fellows. Morning film-reading conferences are given daily by members of the Division. Weekly interdisciplinary and intramural
conferences are given in all areas. Numerous clinical research projects are underway in General Diagnostic Radiology and residents
and fellows are encouraged to participate.
