Blue Distinction
Thomas Jefferson University Hospital has been designated as a Blue Distinction Center for Cardiac Care. Blue Distinction is a nationwide program of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association, recognizing specialty centers that offer the best practices and standards of cardiac care.

Hospitals for a Healthy Environment
Thomas Jefferson University Hospital’s Support Services, managed by Ed Barr, received the “2006 H2E Partner for Change” and the “Making Medicine Mercury Free” Awards from Hospitals for a Healthy Environment. The awards recognize Jefferson’s success in environmental leadership and in becoming a mercury-free facility.

The American Hospital Association also recognized Jefferson’s achievement at its annual meeting in Washington, DC.

Melanoma Hope Network (MHN)
The Kimmel Cancer Center (KCC) at Jefferson has been recognized by The Melanoma Hope Network (MHN) as a Melanoma Center of Excellence (MCE). The KCC is one of the first 10 cancer centers to be designated as an MCE by the network. MHN has designated MCEs across the United States to recognize melanoma treatment centers and doctors, both academic and community-based, that offer exceptional care, knowledge and compassion to patients diagnosed with melanoma, the most dangerous form of skin cancer and also the major cause of death in adult eye tumors. National Alliance for the Primary Prevention of Sharps Injuries and Infection Control Today
Thomas Jefferson University Hospital also won the 2006 National Alliance for the Primary Prevention of Sharps Injuries (NAPPSI) and Infection Control Today (ICT) magazine Primary Prevention Safety Award. “Jefferson’s Sharps Injury Prevention Committee is dedicated to decreasing the incidences of accidental needle sticks, and this award is a reflection of their commitment to the care and safety of our patients and staff,” said Thomas J. Lewis, President and Chief Executive Officer, Jefferson Hospital. The Sharps Injury Prevention Committee is a multidisciplinary team that includes the following departments: Environmental Health and Safety, Nursing, Infection Control, Home Infusion, Supply Chain Management, Pharmacy, Biomedical, Anesthesia and Supply and Distribution.

Top 200 Coding Hospitals in the U.S.
Thomas Jefferson University Hospital has been ranked one of the top 200 hospitals with the most complete and compliant coding practices in the 2006 “Top 200 Coding Hospitals in the U.S.” report. This national study of inpatient coding performance, conducted by HSS, an Ingenix company, utilizes the new released 2005 Medicare data contained within Hospital INSIGHT™, Ingenix’s Web-based analytical and benchmarking tool. Jefferson was identified as a top performer in its peer group of major teaching hospitals, and is recognized for setting a high standard for effective coding and documentation practices.
