Carla, Breast Imaging

Carla grew up in North Philadelphia and attended Hallahan High School. While there, she decided that she wanted a career where she could gain training and start out in the working world within a few years. St. Joseph's Hospital's offered that opportunity with its two-year degree in Diagnostic Radiology.

Fifteen years ago, Carla started working at Jefferson in the Division of General Radiology and 6 years ago, trained for and transferred to the Breast Imaging Center. "I enjoy doing mammography," Carla explains, "because I really do feel I am helping women." In addition to performing mammograms, Carla also performs intake assessments and counseling of women prior to their exam. According to Carla, this gives her a chance to make women feel more comfortable. "You can tell when a woman walks in that she's nervous. I try to talk to her in a positive way and let her know that everything's going to be okay. When I see her walk out that door and she says, ‘Carla, everything was good,' then I know I've made a difference."
