Christine, Nuclear Medicine

How does a PhD in Botany from the University of Wales become the Assistant Chief of Nuclear Medicine at Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia? Christine came to the United States with her husband ten years ago and, while taking courses at Gloucester County Community College, found herself drawn to its nuclear medicine technology training program.

"I was taking courses out of interest," Christine explains. "The nuclear medicine program interested me because I had done some nuclear tracing studies on plants to get my degree back in England." Those initial courses turned into a new career for Christine .

After her training and clinical work, Christine worked at another local hospital for a year before joining Jefferson, a hospital that she feels offers academic as well as clinical opportunities. Since then, Christine has been asked to join the faculty of Thomas Jefferson University's College of Health Profession's in its own newly created Nuclear Medicine Technology Training Program. "I think I've had opportunities here at Jefferson that I wouldn't have elsewhere. I do feel I've been allowed to make my own niche," Christine says.
